1 Peter 1:12
“To them it was revealed that, not to themselves, but to us they were ministering the things which now have been reported to you through those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven—things which angels desire to look into.” – 1:12
To them – this is the prophets (v10)
it was revealed – the “it” here is the salvation that comes in Jesus Christ.
not to themselves, but to us they were ministering the things – the information given tot he prophets about salvation is not for them, but for us who they minister to.
which now have been reported to you – we now know of salvation because of the work of the prophets.
through those who have preached the gospel to you – preaching, therefore, carries the word of God which was delivered to the prophets. And what do they preach? the Gospel. The good news of Salvation (the inheritance of eternal life, which was revealed in Jesus)
by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven – the preacher communicates the Gospel under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.
things which angels desire to look into – why do they desire to look into it? Is the plan of salvation giving them insight into the nature and character of God?
An application:
Father, thank you for the Gospel. The news of salvation, of being born again, of receiving an inheritance of eternal life. Thank-you Father! And thank you for the privilege of being a preacher. Help me to always be empty so that your Holy Spirit can communicate through me. May my life be the sermon that both Angels and Humans “desire to look into”. Amen.
