1 Peter 1:15-16
1 Peter 1:15-16
“but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.”” – 1:15-16
This passage along with the previous passages are dealing with conduct, the before and after. Before we knew of and accepted the mercy and after we knew and accepted the mercy.
but – in contrast to verse 14, and the former lusts, this next thought is going to provide us with something different.
as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, – this is the contrast. Instead of the conforming to the lusts (former) we are now called, (as newborn children in the family of God) to be Holy (Gr hagios) there is to be a change now in our conduct. But why?
because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy. – because our Father is Holy, and we are now adopted into His family, we are to have the family traits of holiness.
An application:
Father, thank-you for Your mercy, and your desire to help me in my miserable condition! Thank you for calling me to be adopted into your family. Thank you for the promise and hope now of your inheritance – eternal life. Thanking for calling me to be like you, holy. Please let it be so in my life, and in the life of my family. Amen.
