1 Peter 1:21

1 Peter 1:21

“who through Him believe in God, who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.” – 1:21

The context of this verse is that Jesus is how we have been redeemed (v19) and this was prepared for before the foundation of the world (v20) but it has been revealed in these last days for our benefit.

who through Him believe in God, – the “who” in this verse is a reference to us for who the revelation of Jesus was made in these last days (see v20). We believe in God, (this takes us back to John 3:16) because of Jesus. Jesus showed us the Father, and now we belive.

who raised Him from the dead – Our belief is in a resurrecting God (ie. we believe in a God who has power over death)

and gave Him glory – The Father gave Our Sacrifice glory. Why?

so that your faith and hope are in God. – so that we would have a belief (or faith) and hope of the resurrection or the inheritance promised back in v4. This abundant mercy has so many implications in this chapter. It starts with mercy but it revolutionizes every aspect of our lives.

An application:

Father, thank-you for your abundant mercy which is impacted my life in so many ways. Thank you for the revelation of Jesus, who through Him we have faith and hope in you, and your desire to give us our inheritance of eternal life. I am undeserving but in desperate need. Thank-you. May my life be brought into harmony with yours. Amen.
