1 Peter 1:24-25

Published on

“because “All flesh is as grass, And all the glory of man as the flower of the grass.
The grass withers, And its flower falls away, 25 But the word of the Lord endures forever.” Now this is the word which by the gospel was preached to you.” – 1:24-25

In the previous verses, we are told that we are born again by an incorruptible seed which lives and abides forever. This is just like the inheritance of eternal life we receive because we are born again into the family of God. This verse starts with “because”.

“because “All flesh is as grass, And all the glory of man as the flower of the grass.
The grass withers, And its flower falls away,”

Because we are just ‘like’ grass and flowers in that we we disappear. Here for a season and then gone. We are not eternal like the seed or word of God in verse 23.

But the word of the Lord endures forever.” Now this is the word which by the gospel was preached to you.

Again we are shown the contrast to the Word of God which lasts forever. And this is what the Gospel (or the good news) is grounded in, the enduring word of God. This is where the Gospel comes from.

An application:

Father, thank you for reminding me of my human frailty. Sin has caused such hurt, pain, suffering, separation, and death. Thank you for your eternal, unfailing enduring word, which speaks to the promise of Good News, the Gospel. Please let me dwell in the shadow of your throne, and let not sin have dominion over me! Amen.
