1 Peter 1:5
“who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.” – 1:5
In verse four Peter has shown that we have an inheritance because we have been born again, we get immortality!
who are kept – “to guard, protect by a military guard, either to prevent hostile invasion, or to keep the inhabitants of a besieged city from flight” We “who have been begotten again” who are in line to receive our inheritance are being “kept” guarded with a military guard to prevent us from losing our status or standing. But how can we be sure that the one who is protecting us is able to do the job? How can we be sure that we are not going to lose our inheritance?
by the power of God – this power that is protecting us is God Himself! So our inheritance, is safe, His mercy has begotten us again, so we are inline to receive this immortality. So how do we know that we have the very power of God keeping us?
through faith – It is by faith that we know we are kept by the power of God. It might not look like it or feel it, but by faith – we are. But why would God want to keep (protect) us by His power?
for salvation – He wants us to be saved. The longing desire of God’s heart is our salvation!
ready to be revealed – God wants this “thing” that for now is by faith, to be “revealed” to all. All will see the power of God in that He was and is able to save and give rebels a new life, “born again” and place them in line to receive an inheritance of immortal life! But when will this actually be revealed?
in the last time – This is when all will know that God does have children who have been born again, because of His mercy, they will receive an inheritance of immortal life. This is by faith right now, but it will be
An application:
Father, thank-you for your abounding mercy, thank-you for being willing to help me in my miserable condition, thank-you for the new birth, in which I become apart of your family, and am in entitled to your inheritance, eternal life – help me Lord, by faith to accept that you are keeping me with your power, protecting me with your power! Help my times of doubt and forgetfulness. Amen.
