Titus 1:6

Titus 1:6

“if a man is blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of dissipation or insubordination.” – Titus 1:6

In the previous text, we see that Paul has stated why Titus is here on Crete now. He has a mission. He needs to give leadership to the church, by setting things in order and appointing elders.

“if a man is…”

Paul is stating that Titus needs to “look” for, don’t just go by “well this is the guy who has been in this position since…” we need to find someone who matches the mould here. We have to start with something, some non-negotiables.

“blameless”

Someone “that cannot be called into to account, and is unreproveable” the man ought to be a solid, and grounded Christian already.

“the husband of one wife”

They must be a “one-woman-man” loyal, focused, again this would make them “blameless”.

having faithful children”

This must show that he is a capable leader. If he can raise and lead a good home, he is the guy we want to lead the church.

An application:

I need to be this man who is without blame, one who is a one-woman-man, and a good father to good kids. This is what qualifies me for church leadership.
