Titus 2:1
Titus 2:1
“But as for you, speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine:” – Titus 2:1
“But as for you” – now Paul is giving Titus specific counsel, remembering he has just outlined; 1) what the elders show be like, 2) what the elder should not be like, 3) the three kinds of problems facing the church insubordinate, idle-talkers, and deceivers. Now Paul has the “how” Titus should work, or the “what” Titus should do/teach, in order to 1) raise up and appoint these elders in every city, and 2) how to address “their mouthes should be stopped” a point he made earlier.
“speak the things” – he must open his mouth, he must train, teach, preach, rebuke, with the goal of communicating the ‘proper’ ‘sound doctrine’.
An application:
As an “overseer”, I pray that I will have wisdom and courage to ‘open my mouth’ and ‘speak the things that are proper for sound doctrine’. Amen.
