Titus 2:3
“the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things—” – Titus 2:3
“the older women likewise“ – in the previous verse Paul has explained to Titus what he needs to speak to the older man, now the older women.
“reverent” – this was the same for the older men. However, in Greek this means “befitting men, places, actions or sacred things to God” Whereas for the older men, Paul uses ” to be venerated for in character, honourable”
“not slanderers” – don’t be a ‘devil’ a slander, this was not given for the men, only the women – interesting.
“not given to much wine“ – this is the same as ‘sober’ which was for the older men. – vigilant, of things free from all wine, as vessels, offerings
“teachers of good things“ – Paul expects the woman to be ‘teachers’ – of good things. For the older man it was to be ‘sound in the faith’, almost sounds doctrinal or theoretical, whereas this ‘teacher of good things’ sounds like more of a practical instruction – which comes in the next verse. In Greek this is ‘teaching that which is good, a teacher of goodness’
An application:
As an “overseer”, I pray that I will be able to be a teacher of ‘good things’ have a practical ministry, not only theoretical. Amen.
