Titus 2:6
Titus 2:6
“Likewise, exhort the young men to be sober-minded,” – Titus 2:6
Now Paul shifts focus from, the young women, to the young men. It is interesting that he starts with older men, then older women, then young men – it’s like a mini chiasm.
“sober-minded“ – to be of sound mind, to exercise self-control. It is interesting that Paul is telling Titus to teach the older man to be ‘temperate’ – (g4998. σώφρων sōphrōn; – curbing one’s desires and impulses, self-controlled, temperate) and telling the younger men to be ‘sober-minded’ – (g4993. σωφρονέω sōphroneō; – to be of sound mind, to exercise self-control) which is derived from (g4998). It seems like the issues with men is that they by nature seem to lack self-control. Whereas for the older ladies its was slander and the younger it was how to love.
An application:
As an “overseer”, I pray that I will be a man of self-control, which can only from the Holy Spirit. Please give me this right thinking, right acting fruit! Amen.
